Sunset yoga with my friend (Lili Cunha)

Hatha yoga

Hatha yoga is a dynamic form of yoga that balances strength and softness, effort and ease. It weaves together breath, mindful movement and moments of stillness to create steadiness in both body and mind. Through conscious alignment and awareness, the practice builds resilience, flexibility and a calm, focused presence.

The Contemplative Hatha Yoga in this course is a meditative form of yoga where we hold postures for a bit longer time and use them as a space for inner listening. The classes are inspired by Hridaya Hatha Yoga – a tradition that sees every experience as a doorway to your true Self (“hridaya” is a Sanskrit word often translated as “Heart” or “core of being”).

Rather than focusing on “perfect” shapes, we explore how each posture feels from the inside. You are invited to relax unnecessary effort and honour your limits. We also gently refer to the chakras and energetic centres, always in simple, accessible language and inviting you to be aware of your own experience.

Each class typically includes:

  • A short centering or brief meditation

  • Classical Hatha Yoga postures held with awareness

  • Relaxation at the end of the class

The intention is to use the body as a doorway to Being: to cultivate presence, openness, and quiet joy—on the mat and in daily life.

Who is this class for?

  • Do you long for a quiet space in the week to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with yourself?

  • Do you enjoy (or want to explore) holding postures a bit longer?

  • Would you like to experience yoga as meditation, not just as physical exercise?

  • Are you curious about chakras and subtle energy?

If you felt curiosity or a yes to any of these, you are warmly welcome in Contemplative Hatha Yoga.
